419 scam seems to be one of the most widely scams floating around the internet.   It is known as the Advance Fee Fraud or Advance fee Scam.  This type of scam does come in a variety of formats.  However, the Inheritance Scam and Lottery Scam are the most popular.

The 419 scam pretends to offer a large about of money that is very enticing.  However, this money does not really exist.

Inheritance Scam-  a wealthy man or women has died and is leaving you a huge sum of money.  Here is the catch; you need to wire them money to cover the legal fees, which can be anything.  All you have to do is pay 500 to receive 1.2 million, sounds like a pretty good trade off.

You will never hear from the scammer again and they will have stolen your personal information.  Another common term for this type of scam is the Nigerian Advance Free Fraud.
