Image this, you are selling something on eBay, lets say an xbox 360 controller. You post your auction and someone buys it. You choose to ship it UPS and you would like to ad insurance just incase anything happens. It is better to be safe than sorry! However, you click “shippers release” using UPS’s online shipping program.
Guess what you worst nightmare has happen the package has been lost. Good thing you put insurance on it! Wrong, since you clicked “shippers realease” you no longer have insurance on it. Must be some sort of joke, right? This is all to real, I shipped a package to a customer using their online shipping service and put insurance on it. However, THEY lost it. I clicked “shipper release,” they are not liable for the package at all!
Nowhere on their site does it say that your package is no longer insured if you do click “shippers release” It is even offered as a free option so why wouldn’t you click “shippers release.” You would think UPS would warn people of this. It seems very misleading to me and they put me off for 2 months. I called a record 15 times in order to get a response from them! I even got a letter in the mail stating that they lost the package. They told me 7 times they would give me a follow up call, never did.
UPS, has the worst customer service! I used to use them for my business shipping needs, but I no longer do. For that reason alone, I am boycotting UPS and will not ship with them. I will use USPS for my shipping needs. UPS is the worst!
What can brown do for you? Lose my package and expect no liability!

Hey, I work at UPS and this doesn’t sound right. If you check the Terms and conditions at the bottom of the main ups.com page, and dowload it, on page 23 you’ll see this about Shipper Release. As long as you didn’t insure it for more than $999 you should be fine
Shipper Release
A shipper may request that UPS release a package on the first delivery attempt. Shipper Release will be
provided by UPS subject to the effective UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service. When Shipper Release
is selected, the shipper acknowledges and agrees that UPS will make only one delivery attempt, that a
signature will not be obtained upon delivery, and that a UPS delivery record showing a completed Shipper
Release delivery shall be conclusive proof that delivery was completed. Shipper Release is provided solely at
the shipper’s risk of loss or damage arising from the release of the package by UPS, and UPS will not be
liable to shippers or third parties for any damages arising from the release of the package. Shipper Release is
not available for packages having a value of more than $999.
