I recently received a message from yet another person that was ripped off by Profit Profusion or Google Profusion. It seems to be very common that this scam is really targeting people from South Africa. I believe the the scammer is using some type of geo-targeting to rip people off. Here is the message:
Dear Garen Yes….I too was taken for a ride! These scumbags are getting publicity on Facebook and many other places. LETS get rid of them! Each time I have called they have denied a charge of US$69 and always, always claim they debited US$1.88 only. I have advised the fraud department of my banking institution and they are investigating. Here is the email that I have sent to them – of course there has been NO RESPONSE. I am extremely concerned with the amount that has been debited from my credit card with regards to a US$1.88 purchase I made for Click Money from ProfitProfusion.com.
It appears that US$ 1.88 appears to be equivalent to R483.50 in South Africa, which is ludicrous. Currently, the exchange rate we are seeing here (and what is posted on www.xe.com) 1 USD = 7.76509 ZAR, clearly US$1.88 equates then to 14.5984 ZAR only and not to R483.50. In both instances that I have contacted Customer Services, each lady confirmed that the only amount showing on your system was for US$ 1.88 – however, my bank forwards to my mobile phone an sms each time a transaction occurs on any of my banking accounts, and clearly a transaction of R483.50 was reserved for a purchase at Visd Jmh Media. This is equivalent to US$ 69.00 not US$1.88. Please attend to this matter as soon as possible. I have advised my bank to cancel my credit card forthwith in light of this anomaly.
I have also called Customer Services on 0800-981-427 and advised then that I no longer want to be registered to use Click Money or any of its affiliates from ProfitProfusion.com. I have received 3 cancellation advices as follows: Our records show that you have requested your membership to the Rebate Millionaire member’s site be cancelled. Your request has been processed and will take effect 10/30/2009. Your confirmation number for the cancellation is: #CMF15390841 Please make note of this confirmation number for your records
Our records show that you have requested your membership to the Network Agenda member’s site be cancelled. Your request has been processed and will take effect 10/30/2009. Your confirmation number for the cancellation is: #CMF15390842. Please make note of this confirmation number for your records Our records show that you have requested your membership to the Click Money member’s site be cancelled. Your request has been processed and will take effect 10/30/2009. Your confirmation number for the cancellation is: #CMF15390840. Please make note of this confirmation number for your records Please ensure that all accounts are cancelled and that no monies are debited forthwith.
I am trying to grasp why they are targeting a lot of people from South Africa? Is 483 Zar considered to be a lot of money in South Africa? I have gotten a number of complaints from people that are native to South Africa and they all seem to be tricked on Facebook? Any advice on this would certainly be helpful.
